Who We Are

A values-led community of clinicians, built gradually over a decade on trust, word of mouth, and a genuine commitment to getting care right

Finding the right psychologist can be harder than it should be. Most people are already exhausted by the time they reach out and then they have to navigate waitlists, confusing referral pathways, and clinicians who don't quite feel like the right fit.

Melbourne Psychology & Counselling was founded in 2016 by Dr Claire Ahern and Dr Christine Raab with a straightforward goal: to build the kind of clinic they'd actually recommend to someone they cared about.

That motivation hasn't changed. Claire and Christine remain genuinely passionate about the client experience at every point; not just what happens in the therapy room, but how people are greeted when they call, how carefully they're matched with the right clinician, and how supported they feel throughout their care.

From the beginning, MPC has been a values-led practice. We care deeply about being a meaningful part of our local community, and we believe that good mental health care is built on good relationships between clinician and client, between our psychologists and our intake team, and between MPC and the GPs and other providers who trust us with their patients. It is those relationships, more than anything else, that define who we are. That same ethos shapes the team we've built.

MPC has grown organically over the past decade — gradually, steadily, and almost entirely through word of mouth. We've never needed to advertise because our reputation has been built one relationship at a time. We also hold ourselves to account by measuring the outcomes of our work. We collect data on client progress so we can keep improving and because we want to be honest about what we actually deliver, not just what we hope to.

The clinicians who join us do so because they share a genuine commitment to this way of working: thoughtful, ethical, collaborative practice in an environment where they feel supported and connected to people who care about the same things they do.

Today MPC is home to a diverse team of psychologists, counselling psychologists, and therapists. Between us we cover a wide range of presentations and treatment approaches  but what holds us together isn't expertise alone. It's a shared belief that the relationship at the heart of therapy is what makes the difference.
