YOUR JOURNEY

What happens, step by step

Here's what to expect from the moment you get in touch through to ongoing sessions.

1

Get in touch

Call, book online or complete our contact form to book a time with our intake team. Referrals aren’t required, but if you have one, it can help us prepare for your call.

Free · No obligation

2

Free phone consultation

During the call, our intake team will learn what you’re seeking and check whether our service is the right fit. If we’re not the best match, we’ll offer alternative treatment options to point you in the right direction. We’re here to answer your questions and, where appropriate, help you connect with the psychologist who suits you best. You’re not locked into anything after the call.

~ 10-15 mins

3

Complete your paperwork

We'll send new client forms in advance. If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, email it through before your first session.

4

Initial consultation

Your first session is a conversation where your psychologist will understand your situation, difficulties, and goals. Together you'll begin to map out what treatment will look like. Assessment often extends to a second session.

Sessions 1 - 2

5

Ongoing sessions

Your psychologist will recommend a therapeutic approach and session frequency tailored to your needs. Therapy typically starts weekly and becomes less frequent as you progress.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

No. Anyone can contact MPC directly. However, a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP entitles you to a Medicare rebate per session, which significantly reduces your out-of-pocket cost. We recommend getting one if you haven't already.

How much does a session cost?

Our fees are set below the APS recommended rates. With a Mental Health Care Plan, Medicare rebates apply. Rates vary according to the psychologist experience, availability of appointments and referral options. Contact us for current rates of available psychologists.

Can I choose my psychologist?

Yes. Browse our team profiles and let us know if you have a preference. We'll match you based on your needs, presentation, and goals and take your preference into account.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes - telehealth (video) appointments are available for both new and existing clients. Let us know at enquiry if you'd prefer this.

Do you see children & adolescents?

Yes. Several MPC psychologists specialise in working children, adolescents, and families. Mention this when you get in touch.
